TNI News Service (TNS)
Webdesk, TNI Kolkata, 7th September, 2015: East Bengal Football Club has touched its own record of winning 6 Calcutta Football League trophies in a tournament after 40 odd years winning it by as many times in a row as they did in the year 1975. With the team led by Gurwinder Singh and managed by East Bengal veteran Biswajit Bhattacharya, they managed to pass 4 goals past their Arch Rivals Mohun Bagan when they locked horns in the 8th round match in the Calcutta Football League, one of the oldest tournaments in Asia.
Do Dong Hyun, the new Korean recruit of East Bengal who had been earlier in India to play the ISL for North East United has been the key man for the red and gold brigade when he scored 2 blinders from 2 extraordinary free-kicks from almost the same position outside the box pushing his goal tally to 12 goals in just 9 matches for East Bengal. The upbeat attacking midfielder not only scored 2 but assisted one for Md. Rafique who headed it in while the 4th one was a spectacular header from a crowded spot by the youngster Rahul Bheke that led East Bengal to win their 50th league win as they defeated Mohun Bagan with the same margin after 1979. The Goals were evenly distributed in either halves of the match.
Do Dong Hyun said in the post-match interview that his second goal was by far the best goal of his entire career and wishes to let East Bengal win I-League this season. East Bengal coach lauded his supporting staff and the entire team for his maiden title with East Bengal that eventually led to the first crown of the season for the team. Mohun Bagan stands 5th in the table with 2 matches short with 11 points whereas the champions have topped with 25 in just 9. East Bengal now holds the record of lifting the CFL trophy for a record 37 times. Do Dong Hyun has been named unanimously as the man of the match for his dazzling display of his left foot skills and goals.
